How to Position an AI Voice Recorder on Different Table Shapes

Reviewed and updated: 21 July 2026.

Table shape changes distance and direction between speakers and the recorder. A central position works for some layouts but fails when a long table places key participants several metres away.

Round table

Use a central position with the microphone clear of papers, cups and laptops. Test quiet speakers from every seat.

Long rectangular table

Place the recorder near the decision-making centre rather than the geometric centre. For large groups, specialist or additional approved microphone coverage may be needed.

U-shaped layout

Position near the open centre, facing the main discussion. Check the two far corners and avoid placing the device beside the projector or loudspeaker.

Classroom rows

A front-table recorder will favour the presenter. Use question repetition or venue audio for participants behind it.

Small café table

Keep the recorder visible, away from crockery and close to the intended participants while minimising bystander capture.

How NERALVO Halo fits

NERALVO Halo can be detached and placed independently. Use a short far-seat test for every unfamiliar room.

Placement should be chosen by speaker distance, noise and meeting purpose—not by where the phone happens to be.
