Audience questions often contain the most useful part of a session, yet they are easily lost because the recorder is positioned near the speaker. A room process is more reliable than expecting one microphone to hear every seat.
Test the farthest seat
Before the event, ask someone at the back to speak at normal volume. Check the original audio and transcript from the intended recorder position.
Repeat the question deliberately
The presenter or chair should repeat or summarise the question before answering: “The question is whether the deadline includes supplier approval.” This creates a clear shared version.
Use a roaming microphone when appropriate
For large rooms or formal events, venue microphones may be necessary. Do not ask participants to shout sensitive questions across a room.
Capture identity proportionately
Usually the question matters more than the questioner’s full identity. Follow the event’s recording and privacy arrangements before naming audience members.
